Personnel eligible for the award are those who are members of units or staffs taking part in

Queen's Sudan Medal 1896-98 Multiple Ribbon Bar and the Former Republic ofThe Queen's Sudan Medal 1896 1898. Unusually for Victorian campaign medals, no clasps were awarded to this medal. The most famous action of the campaign is probably the charge of the 21st Lancers at Omdurman in which a young Winston Churchill took part.
